Raleigh, N.C. (Feb. 23, 2015)—Curtis Wynn, the chief executive officer of Roanoke Electric Cooperative based in Aulander, N.C., was yesterday elected as secretary-treasurer for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) board of directors. NRECA is the service organization dedicated to representing the interests of the nation’s more-than-900 electric cooperatives and their 42 million member-consumers.

“I have every confidence that NRECA’s board of directors and new leadership team will make the national association even stronger, and I’m excited for the opportunity to be a part of it,” said Wynn. Wynn’s election as an officer to the 47-person board reaffirms North Carolina’s electric cooperatives’ strength of leadership and ensures the interests of the 2.5 million people served by electric cooperatives in North Carolina are recognized.

Wynn, who has served as CEO of Roanoke Electric Cooperative since 1997, has represented North Carolina on the NRECA board of directors since 2007. Under Wynn’s leadership, Roanoke Electric Cooperative has proven itself as an innovative industry leader, committed to improving the quality of life in the community it serves not just by being a safe, reliable, affordable electricity provider, but also by identifying revitalization projects that bring new opportunities to northeastern North Carolina, spurring economic activity.

North Carolina’s 26 electric cooperatives serve more than 2.5 million people in 93 of the state’s 100 counties. Each cooperative is private, not-for-profit and governed by a board of directors, which is elected by the membership. Roanoke Electric cooperative is based in Aulander, N.C., and it provides service to more than 14,000 homes and businesses in seven northeastern North Carolina counties.
